The British Government became violent and repressive to the Quit India Movement launched by Gandhiji in the year 1942. It tried to suppress the movement ruthlessly. The mobs who protested were lathi charged, dispersed by the fire of pistols, rifles and even machine guns. The protestors who were captured were physically tortured. Even women and children became victims of atrocities. A huge number of protestors were put into jail without any trial for long time imprisonment.
