The introduction of 'Enfield rifle' in the army was the immediate cause of the revolt of 1857.The Bullets cover were made of fat of cow and pig.The fat has to be bit by mouth to reload the gun.Indians felt humiliated as they worshipped cow and believed it to be sacred.The muslims believed pigs to be dirtiest animal and felt humiliated to bite pig fat.
