a)The use of greased cartridges( with beef fat ) by the Indian soldiers was the most immediate cause.
b)The greased paper had to removed by using their teeth.
c)All the Hindu and Muslim soldiers refused to use the greased cartridges (cow is sacred to the Hindus and pig is hateful to the Muslims because it was a direct attack on their religion.
d) Mangal pandey a soldier from Bengal regiment refused to use greased cartridges and shot down a British officer.With the spread of this news a massive revolt broke out.
