Through the Champaran episode, Gandhui showed the British that they could not order Indians about their own country. Peasants came to know the power of unity. With Gandhiji, they took part in the Civil Disobedience Movement. Till now, the planters had behaved as lords above the law but now the peasants saw that they too had rights and their defenders. courage. The British government realized that the Indians would no more bow down to exploitation and injustice. Within a few years after the Champaran episode, the British planters abandoned their estates. These estates were returned to the peasants. Indigo sharecropping disappeared. In this way, the Champaran episode brought a positive change in India.
