The Delhi sultanate was under constant threats from Mongols. To protect Delhi from the attacks of mongols, the sultans in Delhi had to take some serious measures such as constructing a huge army, feed them, construct cantonments which was quite expensive. Alauddin Khalji was however successful in protecting Delhi from the attack of Mughals.
