In the assembly of the Estates General the members of the third estate demanded that the assembly as a whole conduct voting now, where each member would have one vote. The king rejected this proposal. The representatives of the third estate viewed themselves as spokesmen for the whole French nation. On 20th June they assembled in the hall of an indoor tennis court, in the ground of Versailles. They declared themselves a National Assembly and swore not to disperse till they had drafted a constitution for France that would limit the power of the monarch. They were lead by Mirabeau and Abbe Sieyes. This thus helped assembly to start the revolution in the country and draft the constitution of France in which got completed in 1791 and helped France to become a republic in 1792
