What was the initial reaction of Dr. Sadao and Hana on seeing the wounded man?

In  the story "The Enemy",  a wounded man gets washed ashore from the sea. The house of Doctor Sadao and his wife Hana was a solitary house near the sea. When they saw the man, first they ran there to see what had happened to the person and why was he in this condition. When they saw that the man was a white man and was wounded terribly, they thought of throwing him back to the sea initially. This cruel thought hit their minds because of their patriotic upbringing as the white man was the enemy of their country. But soon, the conscience of humanity and the moral duty of doctor raised above the patriotism and the couple decided to aid this man medically.
