The Munda people are an Adivasi ethnic group of India. They speak the Mundari language, which belongs to the Munda subgroup of Austroasiatic languages. The Munda are found in the northern areas of east India concentrated in the states of Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. Munda also reside in adjacent areas of Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh as well as in portions of Bangladesh. The group is one of India's largest scheduled tribes. Munda people in Tripura are also known as Mura, and in Madhya Pradesh they are often called Mudas.[7]

Explanation:

  • The Khutankatti system of the ‘Mundas’ was in fact a joint ownership or land of the land by the tribal dynasty.
  • Mundas usually cleaned the forests and made the land worth cultivation. The land had belonged to the whole tribe and not of any particular person.
  • Mundas showed disagreement against Zamindari system. Most Munda people believe in Sarna Dharma.
  • They believe in a God who is called Singabonga. However “one-fourth” of the Munda people have adopted Christianity.
