Under this system, every officer was assigned a rank (mansab).The mansabdars formed the ruling group in Mughal empire.Almost all the whole nobility, the bureaucracy as well as military hierarchy had mansabs. It was a grading system used by Mughals to fix rank, salary and military responsibilities. It was divided into two namely 'Zat' and 'Sawar'.The mansabdars received their salaries as jagirs.
