The nature of revolt prior to 1857 was undirected that is it was mostly localised in smaller area,leaderless,no popular support etc.It was suppressed easily by the Britishers.The revolt of 1857 changed the nature of resistance as it was great blow to the British raj with power and dierection to some extent.

here is ur answer to the question above asked
the nature of the British before 1857 was not good.
they accept the religious customs which people allowed and never intereferend . they came as a borrower . but this turn a spices and traditional life change .on seeing the wealth of india , they start ed looting the country . they began making india as a slaves and started ruling there . before the first war of the other nature of revolts was undirected as it was easily suppresed by the britishers . but soon the all india participate in the revolt of 1857 after this the freedom struggle take a rapid progress .
