The political condition of India after the death of Aurangzeb was:
- Aurangzeb's empire had grown far too large and heavy, and he lacked the confidence of his warriors to rule the empire's most remote provinces.
- Many of his political appointees revolted and declared independence, while Aurangzeb's focus on the Deccan precludes him from dealing with political issues elsewhere in the empire.
- The Mughal Empire ceased to be an effective political entity in India after the death of Aurangzeb, although it was not officially proclaimed defunct until 1857-58 when the Indian Rebellion was crushed and Emperor Bahadur Shah was tried for sedition and treason.
