Britishers applied a tax on salt therefore not every in india was not able to buy salt. Only rich where able to buy salt. Salt was a necessary food item for everyone but due to britishers people where not able to salt and people of india where not able to eat anything. Then Gandhi ji started salt march, this movement was started in march 1930 and ended in april 1930.
