The First Battle of Panipat was fought between the invading forces of Babur and the Lodi Empire, which took place on 21 April 1526 in North India. It marked the beginning of the Mughal Empire. This was one of the earliest battles involving gunpowderfirearms and field artillery.

There were many reasons for Babur's victory at Panipat. He had used an artillery which was unknown to the Indians. His army was better trained than the sultan's army and His cavalry was far superior than the Indian cavalry. He took over Agra which was made the capital. On 27th April, 1526 he declared himself as the emperor of India. But the victory of Panipat didn't make him the master of India. Thus, he fought more to consolidate his position in India.
