The democratically elected government of Sri Lanka adopt a series of majoritarian measures to establish sinhala supremacy. the government followed the preferential policies that favored sinhalese in respect to job,religion and many more.

All these measures adopt by the government increased the feeling of alienation among the Sri Lankan tamils. they felt themselves deprived from political rights government jobs and other opportunities common to a citizen.

As a result the Sri Lankan tamils launched parties and struggles for the recognition of tamil as an official language ,for regional autonomy etc but their demands were repeatedly denied.

This led to a joint demand by different political organisation of tamils for an independent tamil elam state in Northern and eastern part of Sri Lanka. this distrust between two communities led to a civil war. as a result thousands were killed, economic growth of Sri Lanka fall.
