Green revolution, great increase in production of food grains (especially wheat and rice) that resulted in large part from the introduction into developing countries of new, high-yielding varieties, beginning in the mid-20th century. Its early dramatic successes were in Mexico and the Indian subcontinent.However there were certain limitation of the Green Revolution: Green revolutions resulted in loss of soil fertility due to increased use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Continuous use of groundwater for tube well irrigation reduced the water-table below the ground. Green revolution was resulted as the introduction of chemical fertilizers , synthetic herbicides and pesticides , high - yield crop, and the method of cropping, the agricultural industry was able to produce much larger quantities of food
