what was the role of communal parties of the National Movement
Answers
There were many communal parties like Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. Their evolution and growth had a damaging effect on the National Movement.
1. They only supported their own religion. They had no respect for other religions. This hampered the unity of the people.
2. They wanted more seats in the legislature for their own members; they were not in the struggle for complete independence.
3. They had no time to think about poverty, illiteracy etc., from which the masses suffered.
4. They were concerened with rights and privilages of upper castes of their own communities.
5. Many communal riots took place in India. This only served to promote the British policy of 'Divide and Rule '.
The persistance distrust and suspicion, and clash of self interest amongst the parties turned into a communal flare. This ultimately resulted in the Partition of India

Indian nationalism developed as a concept during the Indian independence movement fought against the colonial British Raj. Scholars note that a national consciousness has always been present in "India", or more broadly the Indian subcontinent, even if it was not articulated in modern terms. Indian nationalism is an instance of territorial nationalism, inclusive of all its people, despite their diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. It continues to strongly influence the politics of India and reflects an opposition to the sectarian strands of Hindu nationalism and Muslim nationalism.
