B. R Ambedkar's role and contribution to the making of the Indian Consitution is certainly of the most significant level-- on 15th August 1947, when India achieved its independence, Nehruji made Ambedkar as his first Law Minister, in recognition of his legal prowess; and also, in fact, made him the Chairman of the Indian Constitution Drafting Committee: a singular honour, and of course, his first/primary important 'contribution' to this document i.e. its actual writing/drafting and structuring, which is no small thing, as it is Ambedkar ji's words that roll off so decorously when we read the document.

Resolution was passed on Constituent Assembly on 29th August, 1947 appointing a Drafting Committee comprising of 7 members along with B. R. Ambedkar as its chairman & the committee would draft the future Constitution of the country.
Notably his contributions regarding constitution were;
1.His concept of State was a federation in normalcy but unitary during emergency.
2.Centre was made stronger as implementation of specific laws required firm implementation by the centre for which it needed to be stronger.
3.Judicial review under Article 32 of the Constitution & called it the heart & soul of the Constitution.
4.Propounded Directive principles to be the instrument of instructions to legislature & executive on the matters of exercise of powers.
Hope it helps
