Abhimanyu was the son of Pandav Prince Arjun and Krishna's younger sister Subhadra. He was raised by his maternal uncle Krishna at Dwarka when Pandavas were exiled. He was the favorite child of Pandavas and Draupadi also loved him more than her own sons. He was a great warrior at a young age of 16.
Abhimanyu's wife was Uttarā. When Pandavas were in Matsya Desh, Arjun in disguise taught dance and music to Uttarā, the princess of Matsya Desh and after the completion of exile Uttarā's father offered his daughter to Arjun but he refused saying that Uttarā being his student is like his daughter. He then asked her hand for his son Abhimanyu. Later they both got married.
But their story was short lived when not even a year after marriage Abhimanyu died on the 13th day of the Mahabharat war through deceit. After his death Uttarā gave birth to Parikshit who was the only heir to Hastinapur.
