What was the terrible deed done by the Mariner? Why do you think he did it?

The terrible deed that the mariner did was shooting the albatross dead with his crossbow arrow. There is no clear reason given as to why he did it. In the two parts given in the Literature Reader prescribed for English Communicative for class X, there is no mention of the reason behind the killing of the albatross. Since the poem has five more parts, the reason of the bird’s killing might have been given in any of them.

The terrible deed done by the mariner was that he kill the albatross which was considered to be good luck.
These considered that , as the birds was shot , it brought them ill luck which created on unsuitable weather conditions
