Hello my dear friend,

The Tripartite Struggle was a series of battle between Gurjara- Pratiharas, Rashtrakutas and Palas for control over The Ganges Valley in general and Kannuj in particular. The Tripartite Struggle got it's name as 3 kingdoms were fighting for it. They wanted to get control over Kannuj as:

1. It was the epicenter of all political developments in North India.

2. It's location near the Ganga helped to foster trade and commerce in North India

3. It was rich in minerals resources.

4. It was located at the Ganga trade route which connected it to the Silk route which made it strategically and commercially important.

5. The Conquest was Kannuj was like the Conquest of entire North India.
