Answer:

A hit wicket has to be given to someone other than the batsman himself, as that doesn’t do any good to the career of a batsman anyway nor to the maths involved in cricket.

Now, if it has to be someone other than the batsman, then I believe bowler is the only one left in the equation.

Think about it a little more. It is all due to the way a bowler bowled that below 2 scenarios made the batsman to lose his balance and suicide by hitting the stumps.

Scenario 1: The batsman pushed himself too much on a backfoot to suicide by hitting the stumps.

Scenario 2: He goes for a big shot and while swinging his bat he hits the stumps as he was too close to the stumps. This happpened again because he was pushed too much on the backfoot. So wise decision will be to give it to the bowler and not anyone else. No batsman would like such stats to get added in their career alongside his batting stats.

Answer:

The lamp post was the wicket and the bowlers found it very hard to hit it because it was thin.
