Instead of treating all lakhiraj lands as being on the same footing and liable to assessment the General drew a broad distinction between debotter lands which were appropriated to temples and lands known as brahmottar or dharmottar, that is to say, lands devoted to some religious purpose not being temple lands.

Answer:

BRAHMOTTAR land

The brahmottar grants are lands granted to Brahmins and are held by them on the condition that they offer the Ruler their benediction daily and perform worship. There are tenants recorded in occupancy rights in Brahmottar lands, also and some of them are assessed to small quit rents.

DHARMOTTAR land

Lands that were granted by the King for religious activities or religious institutions.

Explanation:

However, there were practices whereby the Ahom King used to gift land to certain categories of people and institutions. Such grants of lands were free and devoid of any future transactions.

The following divisions were made under the Revenue-free lands, also known as the Lakhirajdars granted by the King-

DEBOTTAR Lands

Lands were granted by the King to be dedicated to religious idols.

DHARMOTTAR Lands

Lands that were granted by the King for religious activities or religious institutions

BRAHMOTTAR Lands

Lands which were granted by the King to be gifted to the Brahmins, priests, or the Highly-learned.
