FEATURES OF THE AYAGAR SYSTEM.
1.) The ayagars had the privilege to sell or mortgage their offices.
2.) Ayagars were granted tax free lands known as Munyams which they were supposed to enjoy in perpetuity of their services.
3.) Every village in ayagar system was a unit and its affairs were handled by a team of 12 functionaries together called ayagars.
FEATURES OF NAYAKARA
1.) The king was considered the owner of the soil and thus distributed soil to his Nayakas.
2.) Each Nayaka was in charge of a district.
3.) Nayaka enjoyed greater freedom in his district and there existed not a system of transfer from one district to another.
4.) It was a requirement that Nayakas maintain a sufficient number of troops for the king and serve them in his war.
5.) It was compulsory for Nayakas to pay fixed annual financial contribution to the imperial exchequer which in accordance to the chronicle of Naniz was generally half revenue.
Chief characteristics of the Nayaka system:
• Resembling Europe’s feudalism in this system, the land was owned by the rulers of the country.
• The rulers distributed the land among the landlords and landlords, in turn, distributed it to the farmers for cultivation.
