Loss of their lands and home. Also money in form of cash and gold. One can carry only a limited amount of cash and gold while traveling to far off places. The concept of banks was not prevalent in those days.

Separation from relatives. Some children got separated from their parents.

Loss of jobs. Many had to find new jobs or settle for low paying jobs to feed their family. Such was the urgency of matters.

Health issues due to poor nutrition. Most people were starved and weak. Prone to life threatening ailments. Many children were not able to make the journey. Partition took place in summers. The heat took its toll on people.

Constant fear of thugs and goons. There was a complete breakdown of law and order machinery.

Some effects of partition were psychological. Grief and sorrow over loss of close friends and family. Trauma due to loss of prosperity. Plunged into poverty from being financially well off.
