n reference of FCC consider the structure of NaCl
In FCC the number of atoms present per unit cell = 4
Number of atoms present in octahedral voids= 4
Normal formula of compound is Na4Cl4 or NaCl
now on removing all the atoms from 1 body diagonal (consider any of two opposite vertex and one central vertex)
lost atoms = 4 Cl at corner, 2 Na from edge centre, 2 Cl from face centre, 1 Na from body centre
so loss in Cl = 4 x 1/8 + 2 x 1/2 = 1.5
and loss in Na = 2 x 1/4 + 1 x 1 = 1.5
so new formula = Na1.5Cl1.5 or NaCl.
