They tried to break the movement by taking help of oppressive measures so that Indians can be forced to use their goods.
They also engaged in large scale lathicharge which were known as 'Regulation Lathis.'
Further, Bengal was divided by them and they also created a divide between the two major communities of the country to achieve their aims.

As the term swadeshi means made in ones own country.Due to the arrival of this movement, the economic conditions of british empire suffered a lot.
It basically consisted of oppressions, lathicharge,division of bengal and rift in the Hindu - Muslim unity. They applied these oppressions to force indians to use their goods.
