They say it as an attempt to insult their caste system because in train all the people in spite of their caste were made to sit together... bhramins took as it as insult to Sit with lower caste people which lead to social cause if first war of independence..

Introduction of railways was regarded as an attempt to interfere with the caste rules because Brahmins and untouchables had to sit in the same compartment. There was a rumour that the telegraph poles would be used for hanging people.
