Mendeleev’b periodic table was based on the observation that properties of the elements are a periodic function of their atomic masses. This means that if elements are arranged in the increasing order of their atomic masses, then elements with similar properties get their place in the same group in a successive increasing order of atomic masses.

hey !!

mendeleev used two criteria in creating his preodic. table

1. increasing atomic masses and

2. grouping together of element having similar chemical properties .

Mendeleev took the formulae of the oxides and hydrides formed by the elements for their classification in the form of periodic table .

hope it helps !!
