The year 1871 saw the end of Indian treaty-making. This act is called as the  Indian Appropriation Act.

Consequences:

  • 368 Indian treaties from 1778 to 1868 were honored by the congress party as an effect of this act.
  • The American Indian countries were also not considered to be one of the domestic and dependent tribes.
  • The government paid for moving Plains Indians onto reservations.
  • The hunting lands were reduced and agriculture farming began to increase.
