The demands were:

1) The tamils wanted regional autonomy

2) the wanted an independent tamil elam.

3)however their need for more regional autonomy in the states with sri lankan tamils as majority were not considered by the government and refused it.

4) the wanted tamil to be recognized as an official language

5) and also wanted equality of opportunities in securing jobs and in universities.

The government majoritarianism policies and further alienating of the sri lankan tamil led to a widespread civil war which destroyed the country’s economy and most importantly undermined its unity withi the people.
