Nobility is the group of people who belong to the highest social class and have special titles. They were honourable and courageous. The Mughals chose those who were responsible, capable, competent, faithful and virtuous as their noblemen.

The Mughal nobility consisted of several groups such as Irani, Turani, Rajputs and Indian Muslims. The rulers liked the nobles most who were originally from Central Asia. By incorporating all the groups of different religion in his nobility he paved no way for others to challenge his authority.

The entire nobility received high salaries from the Emperor. Each nobility maintained a large number of servants, attendants and even possessed large number of elephants and horses.

Nobility or chief officers as they were commonly called were one of the most important pillars of the Mughal state. They were very loyal to their Emperor and were called "Guldasta". The relationship between the nobles and the Emperor was one of loyalty towards the Emperor. Nobles were duty bound.

The recruitment of Hindu, Rajput chief along with their sons and close relatives into the Mughal empire was a complete new step in the Indo-Islamic history. Each of the chiefs not only publicly announced their unity but also offered active military help to the Mughals whenever needed.
