Private Quelch despite of being very hardworking and laborious never was able to fulfill his dreams of attaining a strip. The factors which contributed to his decline are -
1) He always used to poke his nose in others matter and used to defame others in front of his seniors .
2) He always used to overpower others by showing off his knowledge.
3) He used to rudely interrupt his teachers and always used to correct them on their mistakes .
Yes his fall in grace is justified because his cunningness overpowered his hardworking nature and knowledge .Thus his own silly mistakes and attempts to be superior led to his decline.
