The Indian Constitution is the foremost law of India. The Constitution lays down the framework distinguishing structure, procedures, fundamental political code, duties, and powers, of govt. institutions and set forth the citizens' fundamental rights, the citizens' duties, and the directive principles

Explanation:

India being a diverse nation had to face many challenges while drawing up the Constitution. They were:

  • The people of India emerged from the role of subjects as citizens during the constitutional process. After freedom, the Indian people emerged as free citizens. Therefore, it was important that the framers include in the Constitution all the "rights & duties"  of nations.
  • Indian people belonging to diverse religions, castes, groups & sects lived as a diverse society. They needed to set up a constitution that could fulfill every part of society's expectations. This wasn't an easy work.
  • After million deaths in the country's partition, India became independent. For the people, this was a painful event. Based on religious differences, the nation was partitioned. For the citizens of both countries (India as well as Pakistan), this was a horrific ordeal that often contributed to the killing with at least 10 Lakhs.
  • The British allowed princely countries to decide if they wished to join or remain separate with India or Pakistan. The merger felt like an unpredictable and daunting job.
  • The British "left it to princely states" to decide if they wished to join or remain separate with India or Pakistan. The integration seemed a difficult, uncertain challenge
  • Therefore, after independence the nation went through a tough process. Around the time the nation's future was not as stable as it now seems. The "constitution's framers" had worries about the situation and the constitution was to form that could hold the nation together and stable in the near future. They had  to make sure that the "constitution 's democratic spirit" was maintained.
