ANS.A peasant is an agricultural worker who generally owns or rents only a small plot of ground. The word is derived from 15th century French païsant meaning one from the pays, or countryside. During Industrial Revolution movement, people were forced to pull away from the tradition of agriculture and to start considering work in the new industrial cities. This brought great stress to many people in work force, especially women. Lower class citizens/peasants had to find new ways to make income.
