→The bhakti movement began in south India around the seventh century in the Vishnu and Shiva temples of tirupati and kanchi. It was begun by the Alvar saints.
→These saints promoted caste equality.
→They also preached the equality of men and women.
→They stressed on devotion and not complex rituals to worship god
→Bhakti saints preached devotion to personal god,either with the form that is saguna or without any form that is nirguna.
→They preached in local language and therefore had a large following among the common people.
→Gaining true knowledge from a guru in order to attain salvation.
