Following are the reasonns for the decline of the mughal empire:

The treasury of the empire was nearly empty as long wars in Central and Deccan India drained money.Shah Jahan's love for monuments also made the treasury bleed as the funds for these monuments were very high .The empire had to deal with a number of kingdoms such as the Maratha Empire , Ahoms etc... and thus were constantly at war with them. This made the empire very weak. Many provinces started declaring Independence from the empire. This lead to the decrease in revenue for the Empire and many important cities such as Surat , Machlipatnam began to fall. The British Empire was also considered as a very big threat to the Empire. With their tricks and tactics , They finally took over India and limited the Mughals to the Red fort where they lived.

Therefore , the following reasongs were responsible for the Downfall of the empire. The last official ruler of the Empire was Bahadur Shah Zafar.

However many people believe the desendants of the Empire are still alive and they live in utter poverty.
