the Chipko Movement was started in 1970 it was started by some women and men in a small village against deforestation by the government I don't think any material was needed for the envolvement in Chipko movement cause as I have study according to my studies I found that in the Chipko movement the men and women hugged the trees when the government officers came for cutting the trees and collecting wood.
