One of the frequently debated issues in the present day world politics is regarding the most stable form of government, given the fact that there are a plethora of different forms of government present and each unique in its own different way , a mutual consensus is hard to arrive to. But a democratic form of government which states by whom, how and in what way a society will be governed is the most popular form of the government. In a democracy an individual is not a passive citizen who blows fire only during the elections but he is an active participant of the government. Democracy like other forms of governments does have some drawbacks and disadvantages but the success of this form of government is hard to ignore. So now we take a look at top 10 reasons that make democracy a robust and successful form of government

10. REPRESENTS THE PEOPLE

The biggest advantage and the most important reason for success of a democracy is that it represents the masses, a democratic government is said to be for the people and by people and it is the most popular form of government in this present day world.

One of the reasons we just can’t forget for the success of a democracy is the better governance that comes with a democratic government, needless to say that good governance and democracy walk hand in hand.

If there is one thing that puts a democracy above all the others forms of government then it must surely be the unique feature of a democracy where in all its citizens are entitled for the basic rights right from their birth and these rights are respected by the government and they are also protected under law so that none of its citizens can be denied their birthrights. This can be other reason for its success.

17122006: The necessary conditions are:
17122006: 1. Education:

The greatest defect in the working of democracy lies in the fact that the masses in whom the power is vested are mostly uneducated, in the third world countries. They do not properly comprehend the political problems of their country and the value of their votes.

Lack of consciousness is dangerous in a democracy. Without a spirit of reasonableness, democracy is bound to degenerate into mob rule. This defect can be remedied by universal education and wide dissemination of knowledge.
17122006: 2. Spirit of Toleration:

Democracy is a government by debate and discussion. A keen spirit of toleration is essential for constructive criticism and healthy discussion. Moreover, democratic government implies a government by the majority.

The majority should be sympathetic towards the minorities and the minorities should be willing to submit to the decisions of the majority.
17122006: 3. A Written Constitution a written constitution is also essential for a success of democracy. A written constitution helps in the safeguarding of individual liberty and keeping the different organs of government within the respective spheres of their authority.
17122006: 4. Civic Sense:

The citizens should possess a high degree of civic sense. They should take a living and healthy interest in the public life of their country.

They should also possess a high standard of honest and moral rectitude. Power may be misused for ignoble purposes in the absence of these virtues.
