Jansie discourages her from having such dream because she knew Sophie belonged to a poor family and all her plans were nothing but imaginary dreams.

Sophie dreamt of starting a boutique with the money she would earn as a manager. She visualized herself as the English fashion designer, Mary Quant, with the best shop in the city or else of becoming an actress. Infact, she wanted to do something that she thought was 'sophisticated'. Jansie was more practical and did not want Sophie to talk of such unrealistic ventures.
