Following were the three major problems faced by the peasantsofAwadhduring the days of the Non Co-operation Movement:
1. InAwadh, thetalukdarsand landlords extracted very high rents and a variety of othercessesfrom the peasants.
2. The peasants also had to do ‘begar’labourfor the landlords and work ontheir farms without any remuneration.
3. There was no security of tenure andpeasants were often evicted, in order to deny any opportunity for them to develop a right over the land they cultivated.
