After independence of India on 15 August 1947, there was a huge crises. As the Britishers had exploited our countries economic situation, there was money crises, lack of job opportunities, lack of food crops, which ultimately led to many people being homeless. Because we were not having enough resources to meet the demand of every person. And also due to many superstitions like sathi pratha, child marriage, etc, girls were exploited. That's why there was low economic development after independence.
