Socio-religious reforms in the 19th century provided the soil for growth of Indian Nationalism. The main reason of emergence of the reform movements was spread of western education and liberal ideas. These reforms, as we all know started in Bengal and soon spread in all parts of India.

Under the circumstances the Quit India Movement begin is as follows:

  • This is also known as August Movement which was launched at Bombay session of the Committee of All- India Congress.
  • During World War II, in 8th August 1942 it was done by Mahatma Gandhi on the demand of ending the British Rule in India.

Its effects are as follows:

  • The most important effect f this movement was that by this British realised that it would be difficult to continue the process of ruling Indians.
