Before the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Andolan, an initiative of the Government of India, was introduced, the girls and women were reduced to the status of second class citizens. Female foeticide, lack of education for girls and discouragement to educated women for launching their career was earlier the order of the day. This thinking is gradually changing, thanks to the incumbent Prime Minister's well-meaning initiative.
