In Russia before 1905, social inequality was prevalent among the working class. Women worker in Russia made up around 31% of the workers but they were paid less than male workers. The total amount they received as their income was only half or three-quarters of the men’s wages. Moreover, the nobles and the clergy were exempted from the taxes while the poor peasants were burdened with more taxes.

The economic conditions in Russia, before 1905 was quite regressive. For instance, the population in Russia got doubled and the economic condition got worsened. Unemployment was common and workers were paid very low. Through the action of Tsar of participating in the World War, the treasury became bankrupt.

Politically Russia was backward in comparison to other nations of Europe. The Tsar of Russia possessed absolute political power. This later became one of the reasons for the people to change the existing government.
