Insulin making beta cells of the pancreas are damaged. This defect or rather condition is called diabetes melettis. It is a very common disease seen.

As a result the glucose in the blood is not converted to glycogen. This is really harmful as it increases the concentration of glucose in the blood. Affected people usually take insulin supplements or injections to combat the disease....It is not a serious disease as long as it is controlled.
