As we know that at the second level of food chain, when primary consumers eat plants most of the energy goes in the environment as heat, of the remaining amount some of the energy is spent in digestion and work we all perform and remaining is used in reproduction. Hence on an average only 10% of the energy turns into our own body when we eat food and available for the next trophic level.
Hence 10% of the 20,000 is 2,000. 2,000 joule is the amount of energy available to second trophic level.
