main role of bacteria and fungi is to break down the dead organic matter and return the vital nutrients to the soil.

if these decomposers are taken out of ecosystem this vital step will be cancelled

plants ---> first level consumers(deer or rabbits)--->second level consumers(lions or crocodiles)---->bacteria and fungi(when animals are dead)---->plants

if decomposers are not there no one will break down the organic matter and the whole earth will be lifeless
