Flame test in Alkali Metal- Generally alkali metals gets characteristic colour to Bunsen flame. In those ground state emits absorbed energy as a visible light. The reason behind this is the cause of flame energy excitation of the most outer electron.

Examples- Li - Crimson red, K - Violet,

Rb - Red, Cs - Blue etc.

Flame test in Alkaline Earth Metal- In those as we know generally all electrons are very tightly fixed or bounded because of very small size of Be and Mg. So electrons is not excited to its higher level and which results in not giving flame.

Examples- Ca - Brick Red, Sr - Crimson red, Ba - Apple green etc.
