When iron filings are added to a solution of copper sulphate, iron displaces copper to form ferrous sulphate.
Fe + CuSO4 ---> FeSO4 + Cu
● Observations -
- Colour of solution changes to green (due to formation of FeSO4) from the previous blue colour (of CuSO4).
- Copper displaced here is deposited as reddish-brown layer on iron filings.
