The thinking part of the brain which is known as the cerebral cortex slows down instantly within 2 to 20 seconds and flatlines which means no brainwaves will be visible on an electric monitor. This will start a chain reaction on a cellular level that eventually results in the death of all brain cells. , this can take hours after the heart has been stopped.
